Adsense Ads Open in New Window in Youtube – A Violation of Adsense Terms?
One of the feature that most people find missing in adsense is the ability to open google adsense ads in a new window (on click). This would help publishers make revenues without losing their visitors. However adsense terms and conditions document clearly prohibits that. In particular it says
Any AdSense code must be pasted directly into webpages without modification. AdSense participants are not allowed to alter any portion of the code or change the behavior, targeting, or delivery of ads. For instance, clicks on Google ads may not result in a new browser window being launched.
However youtube gets special treatment there. Ads in youtube’s community page (and several others open in new window) and there is in fact a small image right next to the ‘Ads by Google’ logo indicating that. Here is a screenshot
I am wondering why youtube should get this special treatment. If this format works better for youtube (and for users) then shouldn’t other sites be allowed this too?

Maybe because Youtube is a Google product!
I don’t think it is in anyway violation of law. I release a product for second party, but I can always innovated and make it flexible for myself.

Thats the whole point … Google always talks about “Do no evil” and doing the best for the users. If this is infact best for users, shouldn’t other sites be allowed this too?
In fact if this works better for advertisers too, then again other sites should be allowed this.
May be it has to do with YouTube i.e. its a video playing site. Google don’t want their users to loose thr video buffers, in case they click an advertisement.
Now you can say this that even muziboo don’t want to loose it’s user audio buffer. But then number of sites which register at adword and adsense to number of sites with audio/video streaming is very less.
Just a wild guess ;)
PS: They even allow some to manipulate the code of their ads. For e.g. I saw some custom ads on Linkedin :)
RockYou and RightMedia are much better alternatives to GoogleAdsense. RockYou pays 10times more cpm for social media sites. Goodbye Google.
